
Roman Josi, a defenseman for the Swiss national hockey team, has been named the Most Valuable Player of the World Championship, as announced by the tournament’s press service. At the home world championship, the Swiss team reached the final, where they were defeated by the Finnish national team.
The fate of the gold medals was decided in overtime, which concluded with a score of 1-0 in favor of the Finns. Josi participated in 10 matches during the tournament, accumulating 12 points based on the “goals plus assists” system. He scored five goals and provided seven assists.
Previously, the Finnish national team emerged victorious in the Ice Hockey World Championship, which took place in Switzerland. In the final match held in Zurich, the Finns bested the tournament hosts, securing their fifth world championship title in history.
Prior to this, the Finnish hockey players had secured their spot as finalists in the World Championship by defeating the Canadian team 4-2 in the semi-finals. This encounter took place in Zurich. For the winning Finnish side, the goals were scored by Patrik Puistola (4th minute), Aleksander Barkov (21st minute), Konsta Helenius (32nd minute), and Aatu Räty (33rd minute). For the Canadian team, Robert Thomas (9th minute) and Dylan Holloway (15th minute) found the back of the net.
