In the Italian region of Calabria, an investigation is underway into the murder of four laborers who were inside a vehicle at a gas station in the Amendolara area, near Cosenza. According to The Guardian, two Pakistani nationals have already been apprehended in connection with the case and have been charged with aggravated murder.
Investigators have revealed that CCTV footage captured the perpetrators dousing the car with flammable liquid before igniting it and barricading the doors. Inside the vehicle were three Afghan nationals and one Pakistani national. One of the Afghans managed to escape through the trunk, sustaining burns to his hands.
“The assault was recorded by a surveillance camera at a gas station in Amendolara, close to Cosenza. According to Prosecutor Alessandro D’Alessio, two Pakistani citizens have been arrested on charges of aggravated murder,” reports The Guardian.
The surviving man, who was involved in strawberry harvesting, informed investigators that he shared a residence with those who perished. He suggested that the attackers might be affiliated with a significant criminal organization that exploits migrant labor in the region.
He further stated that the workers were threatened with firearms and knives, compelling them to work without remuneration. In exchange, they were provided only with food and lodging. These claims are currently being verified as part of the ongoing investigation, with prosecutors diligently working to ascertain all the facts surrounding the incident.
