Details concerning the folding mechanism for the iPhone Ultra (iPhone Fold) have been uncovered within the iOS 27 beta, as reported by Digital Chat Station.
This handset is slated to feature real-time, high-precision detection of the hinge’s opening and closing angle. This capability will enable the device to discern in real-time whether it is in a physically closed, fully unfolded, or partially folded state. Consequently, the interface elements (such as an iPhone-like home screen when closed and an iPad-like home screen when open), speaker audio, and other functionalities will adapt dynamically.
The insider did not elaborate on the specific manner in which the smartphone’s audio output will be modified based on its folded or unfolded status.
More recently, Sahil Karoul, a blogger who famously purchased a flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra from a local electronics store well before its official release earlier this year, has now showcased prototypes of two iPhone Fold models. These prototypes appeared in both a classic white and a sleek black finish.
The anticipated foldable iPhone is expected to adopt a “book-style” format, boasting an internal display measuring approximately 7.7 inches and an external screen around 5.3 inches. A notable characteristic will be the volume control buttons positioned at the top of the device’s chassis. This placement could prove more convenient in the unfolded state, considering the device’s “wide” aspect ratio, which leans towards that of a tablet. Furthermore, rumors suggest that the power button on the right side will integrate Touch ID, heralding the return of the fingerprint scanner.
