The United States men’s national soccer team defeated Australia 2-0 in their second group stage match at the World Cup. With this result, the Americans have secured an early spot in the knockout rounds of the tournament being held on home soil.

The game took place in Seattle. Just 11 minutes in, Australian defender Cameron Burgess accidentally knocked the ball into his own net. The US advantage was extended by Alex Freeman, who scored in the 43rd minute.
As a result, the US team now has 6 points, making them the second team to advance to the Round of 16. Earlier, Mexico had already clinched their place in the knockout stage after defeating South Korea 1-0.
