Norway’s national team defeated Ivory Coast in the Round of 32 at the FIFA World Cup, currently being hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The match in Dallas ended with a 2-1 scoreline in favor of the Norwegians. Goals were scored by Antonio Nusa (39th minute) and Erling Haaland (86th). For the Ivory Coast side, Amad Diallo found the net (74th minute).
Haaland has now scored his fifth goal in the current tournament, placing him second in the race for the Golden Boot, trailing only Argentina’s Lionel Messi (6 goals). The striker has found the back of the net in 13 consecutive appearances for his national team (25 goals in that span). Overall, he has recorded 60 goals in 53 games for Norway.
The Norwegian team has matched their best-ever performance at World Cups. This marks the third time in history they will compete in the Round of 16; in 1938 and 1998, the Scandinavian side was eliminated at this stage by Italy. Meanwhile, Ivory Coast has advanced to the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time ever.
