In the Italian city of Bologna, the world’s largest paper airplane was launched and earned a spot in the Guinness Book of Records, reports La Nazione.
According to the newspaper, it was crafted from paper and glue by engineering students from the University of Pisa. The aircraft had a wingspan of 20.04 meters and a length of 7 meters. During its launch on June 25, it flew 59 meters, allowing the students to surpass the previous record set in Germany in 2013.
Filippo De Paoli, a student at the University of Pisa, explained that the idea of launching the world’s biggest paper plane came about when he and other students were amusing themselves during a break, playfully tossing homemade flying toys as a joke. The engineers had been working on the design of the launched model since February of this year.
