On Friday, Brazil’s Finance Minister Dario Durigan stated that the government does not plan to implement retaliatory measures in response to the tariffs imposed by the United States, emphasizing that the country will first carefully assess potential reciprocal actions before taking any steps.
The Trump administration introduced a 25% tariff on numerous Brazilian goods on Wednesday, citing what it described as unfair trade practices by Brazil.
Durigan told reporters that the government is not considering retaliatory steps but is evaluating possible reciprocal measures. According to him, officials will examine the needs of affected industries before announcing any decisions.
The finance minister also addressed concerns about measures that could increase public spending, underscoring that the government will act cautiously to avoid harming Brazil’s fiscal trajectory.
Durigan added that Brazil will continue negotiations with the United States and other trade partners.
