The European Commission has adopted two decisions under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) concerning Google and its Android operating system. As a result, the company must now grant third-party AI assistants access to key system capabilities that are currently exclusive to Google Gemini. This change will allow users to set chatbots from other companies as default, with features similar to those of Gemini. All modifications must be implemented by Google by July 2027. This is reported by Prokazan.
Additionally, Google is obligated to share anonymized search query data with other search engines and AI services that include search functionality. The data will be anonymized using a multi-layered system developed in collaboration with experts. Google may refuse to share data if it determines that doing so would pose significant cybersecurity risks. The data-sharing requirement will take effect in January 2027.
