An unusual medical case occurred in Bangladesh: a 55‑year‑old fisherman was urgently taken to the hospital with intestinal perforation. The incident was reported by the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports.
According to the man, while fishing, an eel got under his clothes and entered his body through the rectum. Due to embarrassment, the victim delayed seeking medical help despite experiencing severe pain, hoping the fish would come out on its own.
When the fisherman’s condition significantly worsened, he was hospitalized: he complained of acute abdominal pain and showed signs of peritonitis. An X‑ray examination revealed that the eel had damaged the sigmoid colon, creating an opening about 5 centimeters in diameter.
During surgery, doctors removed a live 65‑centimeter eel from the patient’s body and performed a colostomy to restore intestinal function. The man was discharged from the hospital four days later.
