Before the crash, the female pilot reported a rapid loss of altitude to air traffic control
The pilot of a Learjet 60 that crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, reported a rapid loss of altitude to air traffic control just seconds before the tragedy, the New York Post reports.
“We’re descending at 8,000 feet per minute—mayday, mayday—we’re descending at 10,000 feet, speed is increasing, we’re descending at 20,000 feet per minute,” the newspaper quoted the pilot as saying. Moments later, she shouted: “We’re going to hit the ground! Damn it, we’re out of time!”
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy stated that there were nine people on board the aircraft, which crashed onto a street in Palm Beach, Florida; there were no survivors.
