Ford Motor plans to shift production of several Lincoln models from China to the United States starting in 2030, the company’s CEO said in an interview with Reuters on Wednesday.
The company’s chief executive described the decision as difficult but necessary to strengthen the U.S. automotive industry.
Gasoline-powered vehicles and electric vehicles imported from China are subject to significant tariffs. Ford confirmed that the U.S. tariff on the Lincoln Nautilus—the primary vehicle Ford imports from China—stands at 52.5%.
U.S.-made Lincoln vehicles will be sold on the domestic market as part of efforts to boost production volumes, Reuters reports.
