Aston Villa player scores in UEFA Super Cup match
Aston Villa forward Brian Maggio has become the youngest player to score a goal in a decisive European club tournament match.
The forward found the net against the French side Paris Saint-Germain—whose goal is guarded by Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov—during the UEFA Super Cup match. He scored in the first minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half. The score stands at 1–1 after the opening 45 minutes.
At the time of the match, Maggio is 17 years and 212 days old. The previous record-holder was English forward Jimmy Greaves, who scored in the first leg of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final in 1958 at the age of 18 years and 13 days. The record for the UEFA Super Cup specifically had been held since 1995 by former Netherlands striker Patrick Kluivert (18 years and 327 days).
