
Spanish midfielder and 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri has confirmed his move to Barcelona.
“Playing for Barcelona is my dream. I look forward to joining my teammates. We are going for the Champions League and all other trophies,” journalist Fabrizio Romano quoted him as saying on X.
From 2019 to 2026, Rodri played for the English club Manchester City. With the team, he won the English league title four times and the FA Cup twice; in 2023, he won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
In 2024, Rodri won the European Championship with the Spanish national team and claimed the France Football Ballon d’Or. He became the third Spanish player in history to receive this award, following Alfredo Di Stéfano and Luis Suárez.
On July 19, 2026, the Spanish national team defeated Argentina 1–0 in the World Cup final. Rodri was named the tournament’s best player.
