On August 19, 2026, a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo (registration D-AINM) operated its first flight featuring the new Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi service powered by Starlink. The aircraft departed Frankfurt for Rome on flight LH234, and the system was activated at an altitude of 10 km by Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter.
According to the company, Starlink will provide passengers with high-speed internet from takeoff to landing; in some instances, connection speeds on board may even exceed those available at home or in the office.
By the end of 2026, Lufthansa and Lufthansa City Airlines plan to install Starlink on up to ten additional A320-family aircraft. The primary installation work will be carried out by Lufthansa Technik specialists in Berlin, with the equipment installation scheduled to coincide with routine aircraft maintenance.
The technology will subsequently be rolled out across the entire Lufthansa Group. By 2029, Starlink is expected to be available on approximately 850 aircraft across all the Group’s airlines, positioning Lufthansa Group as Europe’s largest airline group offering high-speed satellite internet on board.
Access to Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi will be free for Miles & More members and Travel ID users, regardless of their class of service.
