Apple internally developed and tested a specialized Apple Pencil for its upcoming foldable iPhone, codenamed iPhone Ultra. The prototype was shorter than iPad versions to fit the smartphone’s form factor and featured magnetic attachment and charging. However, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman reported that the company is unlikely to release it. Testers found several flaws: attaching the stylus to the side made holding the folded device inconvenient, and the hard tip risked leaving irreversible marks on the fragile, flexible inner screen. Additionally, the decision may align with Steve Jobs’ original philosophy that smartphones shouldn’t require styluses.
