
Scientists have created smart nanoparticles that serve a dual purpose during glioblastoma surgery. First, they can illuminate hidden cancer cells, helping surgeons to more precisely delineate the tumor boundaries. Second, after surgery, these nanoparticles can target and destroy any remaining microscopic cancer cells left behind, potentially preventing recurrence. In mouse models, the treatment demonstrated promising results: it prevented tumor regrowth and led to 100% survival at 60 days. While still in preclinical stages, this technology could significantly improve surgical outcomes for one of the most aggressive brain cancers.
