Apple accused OpenAI of destroying important evidence in a case of “theft of trade secrets.” The company asked the court to speed up the collection of materials necessary for the investigation.
The dispute involves three former Apple employees who joined OpenAI. One of them, Chang Liu, according to Apple, kept a working MacBook after leaving the company. OpenAI received the laptop in July and only delivered it to Apple in August.
After investigation, Apple stated that Liu downloaded a confidential Apple circuit board design and used it in his work at OpenAI.
Messages allegedly found on the laptop said that the ex-Apple employee discussed “the destruction of the types of data that Apple needs to conduct forensic analysis.”
