At Meta Connect 2026, the company unveiled its most ambitious hardware release to date: Meta VR Glasses, a virtual reality headset that weighs just 100 grams — five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3. The device splits its architecture into two parts: the glasses themselves hold the displays, sensors, and speakers, while a tethered external puck houses the Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset, 12 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, and the battery. The frames feature micro-OLED panels delivering 5K resolution at 37 pixels per degree, with support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos spatial audio. Notably, Meta VR Glasses became the first VR device certified under the IMAX Enhanced standard.
Control is handled entirely through eye tracking, hand gestures, and voice commands via Meta AI — no physical controllers are required, though Touch Plus controllers are supported for backward compatibility with Quest games. The headset supports 75 launch titles with hand-tracking, cloud gaming via Xbox Cloud Gaming, and productivity features including virtual multi-monitor setups on Windows. Battery life is rated at approximately three hours of high-resolution media playback, with 45 W fast charging. Sales begin in spring 2027 at $1,299.
