In a fascinating intersection of biophysics and longevity science, researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences successfully extended the average lifespan of C. elegans worms by 43.39% by introducing magnetotactic bacteria (MTB). The bacteria, which naturally contain iron-rich magnetic structures, significantly preserved neurological and intestinal functions in aging subjects. The study verified that the microbes actively suppress ferroptosis—a highly damaging form of cell death caused by cellular iron accumulation and oxidative stress—presenting a brand new microbial mechanism for therapeutic life extension.
