In a massive power move that signals the end of the traditional cellular tower monopoly, SpaceX has officially finalized an $8 billion cash deal to acquire a nationwide low-frequency spectrum license portfolio. Spanning up to 14 megahertz of critically valuable low-band rights across the United States, this infrastructure acquisition will allow Elon Musk’s aerospace venture to integrate its orbital network directly into the commercial smartphone ecosystem. Unlike higher frequency bands, low-frequency waves travel much farther and easily penetrate thick concrete walls and dense forest canopies. By combining this newly acquired spectrum with the advanced Starlink satellite framework, SpaceX aims to deliver completely uninterrupted cellular service to standard, un-modified mobile devices everywhere, fundamentally disrupting the telecommunications market.
