A violent localized storm system has battered the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, triggering over 670 emergency incidents across dozens of municipalities within a 24-hour window. The severe weather front brought destructive gale-force winds and torrential downpours, leading to flash floods, widespread roof damage, and the tragic collapse of a gas station structure that resulted in at least one fatality. Civil defense units have launched large-scale rescue operations using boats and heavy vehicles, successfully pulling more than 110 displaced residents from flooded neighborhoods in Lages and Rio do Sul as rivers rapidly breach their banks.
