
Norwegian speed skater Sander Eikrem secured victory in the 5000-meter race at the World Cup stop held in Inzell, Germany, simultaneously setting a new world record in the process.
The athlete completed the distance in 5 minutes and 58.52 seconds. With this performance, he surpassed the former best time held by Frenchman Timothée Loubine, who clocked 6 minutes and 0.23 seconds during the World Cup event in Salt Lake City, USA, back in November 2025.
Sander Eikrem is 23 years old. He currently holds the title of 2025 World Champion for the 5000-meter distance, in addition to having secured two European Championship titles.
The World Cup round taking place in Inzell is scheduled to conclude on January 25th.
