Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi has reportedly taken ownership of the Spanish football team “Cornellà.” This information was disclosed on April 16th by insider Fabrizio Romano.
“Messi will hold complete ownership, one hundred percent, of the Catalan club, as he is channeling investment into a club poised for the future, driven by a fresh perspective,” Romano stated in a post on Instagram (a Meta platform deemed an extremist organization in Russia).
Lionel Messi boasts eight Ballon d’Or awards and secured the World Cup title in 2022. During his European career, the Argentine represented Paris Saint-Germain in France and FC Barcelona in Spain. With the Catalan side, he triumphed four times in the Champions League, adding three UEFA Super Cup victories and three Club World Cup titles to his resume. On the international stage, the forward’s achievements, aside from the World Cup, include winning the 2008 Olympic Games and claiming the Copa América title twice, in both 2021 and 2024. Furthermore, he earned a silver medal at the 2014 World Cup.
Back in December of last year, Romano had reported that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman might present a bid to acquire FC Barcelona for a sum of €10 billion. Currently, Barcelona is burdened by a debt amounting to €2.5 billion, a factor that could potentially facilitate discussions between the Spanish club and the Saudi Arabian prince.
