
Finland’s national hockey team defeated Austria, extending their winning streak at the World Championship in Switzerland to six games.
On May 24th, Finland faced Austria in a group stage match of the championship. The “Lions” took the lead late in the first period, with Mikael Granlund finding the back of the net. They then extended their advantage to four goals in the second period, thanks to scoring by Sakú Mäenalanen, Jesse Puljujärvi, and Sakari Manninen.
Austria managed to narrow the deficit early in the third period. Benjamin Nissner scored at the 44th minute. At the 48th minute, Patrick Puistola continued the rout. Leon Wallner set the final score on the board at 5:2 in the 59th minute.
The Finnish national team has now won all six of their games at the World Championship in Switzerland, accumulating a total of 18 points. In their next match on May 26th, the “Lions” will face the tournament hosts, who also remain undefeated.
