
Norway’s national team emerged victorious against the Czech Republic in a group stage match of the Ice Hockey World Championship currently underway in Switzerland.
The Group B encounter took place in Fribourg, concluding with a 4:1 scoreline (2:1, 0:0, 2:0) in favor of the Norwegians. Scoring for Norway were Haavard Østrem Salthaug (3rd minute), Mikael Brandsegg-Nygård (7th; 55th minute), and Martin Rønneld (49th minute). For the seven-time world champions, the sole goal was scored by Jaroslav Hlinka (16th minute).
This win marks the second time the Norwegian team has triumphed over the Czech Republic; their previous victory occurred in 2010. Prior to this game, Norway had never managed to score four goals against the Czechs.
The Norwegian squad has accumulated 13 points, surpassing the Czechs in the standings and securing second place with one match remaining in the group stage. This marks the team’s first appearance in the playoffs since 2012. The Czechs, also with 13 points, are in third place, having also guaranteed themselves a spot in the quarterfinals.
