Jenny Kuechler shared with the German newspaper Bild that her two miniature hens were laying eggs in the same nest, but their incubation processes differed. Two eggs were close to hatching, yet neither hen showed the expected care for her offspring.
“Two eggs were very close to hatching; the shells were already pecked from the inside. But it seemed neither hen was concerned,” the designer recounted.
Kuechler decided to take over their care herself, as the chicks would likely have faced a swift demise otherwise. She placed the eggs inside a sports bra, having first filled it with socks to create a warm environment. She then covered the bra with additional clothing.
“The sports bra was simply perfect: it’s stretchy and provides a very snug fit. This created a sensation of close skin-to-skin contact – first with the egg, and then, of course, with my chest,” the German woman explained.
The first chick successfully hatched within a day. However, Kuechler admitted she made a mistake by attempting to place it in the main hen house, where the chick soon disappeared.
Consequently, the designer resolved to personally care for the second hatched chick, naming it Titti.
