In the Finnish capital, Helsinki, 62 families have been left without a home due to a fire that started with a gas grill on a balcony. The incident occurred at night in the Kalasatama area, as reported by RMF24.
The fire began on a fourth-floor balcony, subsequently spreading rapidly to the roof of the nine-story building, which was constructed in 2016. The roofing was completely destroyed, and stairwells and utility systems were also damaged. This fire has been identified as one of the most significant in Finland in recent years.
It took approximately ten hours to extinguish the blaze, with 30 units of equipment involved. The residents were evacuated, and fortunately, there were no fatalities.
The police are classifying this as gross negligence that endangered public safety. Residents are currently unable to return to their apartments, which sustained damage from water and smoke, as the investigation is still ongoing.
