Millie, a cat from Stockport, UK, is celebrating her 31st birthday—an age equivalent to 146 in human years. This impressive longevity makes her a top contender for the title of the world’s oldest living cat, according to the Daily Mail, citing her 71-year-old owner, Leslie Greenhough.
The secret to the pet’s longevity lies in her diet and water. Leslie explained that he feeds Millie exclusively on salmon, prawns, chicken, and tuna, and gives her only bottled mineral water from Buxton. He also noted that he spoils her with treats and cuddles on the sofa.
Leslie inherited Millie from his late wife, Paula, who had adopted the kitten when she was three months old. The couple met on a dating site in 2012 and married in 2014, but Paula passed away from COVID-19 six years ago. Following her death, the cat struggled with the loss and refused to eat, though her appetite eventually returned.
Her owner shared that, due to the hot weather in the UK, he runs two fans for Millie and adds ice cubes to her water. Leslie says he is very proud of his pet and considers her a true hero, noting that even humans rarely reach such an age.
Leslie had hoped to get Millie into the Guinness World Records, but he cannot officially verify her age. The only evidence is a photograph from 1995; only his late wife knew the whereabouts of the documents confirming her date of birth.
