A tragic incident occurred in the North Maluku province of Indonesia, where a giant python attacked a man as he was walking along a forest path back to Waisakai village around 3 a.m. The reptile lunged at the victim from the underbrush, seized his leg to prevent him from escaping, and then constricted and killed him.
When Lumbessi failed to return home after a night out, his worried relatives set out to look for him. On the trail, they found the missing man’s belongings — a backpack, a bag, and sandals — along with visible bloodstains nearby.
Later that evening, villagers followed the trampled grass deeper into the forest and soon located a motionless python with a markedly swollen body — a clear sign that the snake had swallowed large prey. To recover the victim’s body for his family, the locals cut open the reptile’s abdomen and retrieved Lumbessi’s remains. The body was then handed over to his family for burial rites.
