On November 2, British national Karl Bushby returned to his hometown of Hull, concluding a journey around the world on foot that spanned 28 years.
The 57-year-old traveler’s return was covered by major British television networks. He was welcomed home by his 75-year-old mother, his 36-year-old son, and his 12-year-old granddaughter—whom he had never met before—along with hundreds of local residents.
According to Bushby, it is difficult for him to grasp that his journey has come to an end or to figure out how to plan his life moving forward.
“I have absolutely no idea where I’ll go from here… I’ve dedicated half my life to a single goal that defined my entire existence. And now, the thought that it’s all over is a bit frightening,” the Briton said.
Bushby set off on his journey on November 1, 1998. Traveling on foot and by swimming, he covered approximately 50,000 kilometers and visited around thirty countries.
