In the post-match spot-kick competition, the side from San Sebastián proved more accurate, winning 4-3. Arsen Zakharyan, the Russian midfielder for “Real Sociedad,” was not named in the squad for this match.
Only one of the last five Spanish Cup finals was decided in regular time—in 2023, “Real” needed just 90 minutes to overcome “Osasuna” (2-1). In the preceding tournament, “Barcelona” beat “Real” in extra time (3-2) during the championship match. The strongest contender was determined by a penalty shootout in both the 2022 and 2024 editions.
This marks the third occasion “Real Sociedad” has secured the Spanish Cup title. Previously, the club lifted the trophy in the 1986/87 and 2019/20 seasons. “Barcelona” holds the record for the most titles with 32 victories.
