
AC Milan’s midfielder, Luka Modrić, has been named the best Croatian footballer for the year 2025, according to an announcement on the Italian club’s official X social media account.
The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) presented the award to Modrić on Friday. This marks the fourteenth time in his professional history that he has secured this accolade, achieving it ten consecutive times.
Now 40 years old, Modrić joined AC Milan in the summer of 2025 as a free agent. Before his move to the Italian side, the midfielder had stints with Croatian clubs Dinamo Zagreb and Inter Zaprešić, Bosnian club Zrinjski, English club Tottenham, and Spanish giant Real Madrid. During his tenure at Real Madrid, Modrić secured four Spanish league titles, two domestic cups, four national super cups, claimed the Champions League six times, won five UEFA Super Cups, five FIFA Club World Cups, in addition to the Intercontinental Cup.
For the Croatian national team, Modrić has amassed 196 appearances, setting a record for the most caps by any player for the side. At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Modrić helped his team secure the silver medal, followed by a bronze medal four years later in Qatar. In 2018, the midfielder also earned the prestigious Ballon d’Or award and was recognized as the top footballer of the year by both FIFA and UEFA.
