A video game developer meticulously orchestrated an armed assault targeting high-ranking US officials, dispatching a farewell message to his relatives mere minutes before the planned attack.
The apprehended assailant, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, traveled to Washington D.C. from a Los Angeles suburb, equipped with two handguns and a knife, according to reports from The Washington Post. Moments before executing his plan, he transmitted a message of apology to his family members for his impending actions.
“I am not seeking forgiveness, but had I seen an alternative avenue to get this close, I would have taken it,” the perpetrator stated in his correspondence.
In his message, he self-identified as a “friendly federal executioner” and harshly condemned the policies of the US administration.
According to the investigation’s findings, the shooter intended to eliminate officials based on their perceived importance, deliberately omitting the Director of the FBI from his target list.
The attacker’s brother alerted law enforcement immediately after receiving the alarming letter. The detainee’s sister also informed investigators about his propensity for making radical statements.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche noted that the perpetrator acted alone and is refusing to cooperate with the inquiry. During the shootout at the hotel, only a single Secret Service agent sustained an injury, with the bullet being stopped by his body armor.
Acquaintances described Allen as an ordinary and courteous individual. Previously, he had obtained two advanced degrees, worked as a video game developer, and was even recognized as teacher of the month at a private educational firm. He now faces a potential prison sentence exceeding ten years.
