The National Hockey League (NHL) has modified the format for its All-Star Game. In 2027, the event will feature a “3-on-3” national team tournament, according to the league’s official website.
This event is scheduled to take place on February 5th and 6th in New York, at the home venue of the Islanders.
The tournament will include national teams from the United States, Canada, Finland, and Sweden. Additionally, there will be a “World” team, which, as stated by NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, will comprise players from various nations, including Russia.
Each national team will consist of 11 players: nine skaters and two goaltenders. The selection process for participants will commence in December, with the NHL website’s editorial staff choosing three players for each roster.
All participating teams will face each other once in a series of ten five-minute games. Teams will earn two points for a victory, one point for a tie, and zero points for a loss. The top two teams will advance to the championship game, with the winner receiving $2 million.
In addition to the tournament, eight skills competitions will be held featuring 10 players under the age of 25. The winner of these competitions will be awarded $1 million.
