A climber named Antar al-Absi, widely known as “Spider-Man,” was tragically found deceased in Yemen. Rescuers located his body within the sulfurous crater of the Damt volcano, situated in the southern province of Ed-Dali. This discovery occurred several hours after his fall into the volcanic crater. The news was reported on June 14th by Yemen Online, citing information from the local civil defense authorities.
“Following a search operation that commenced immediately after his disappearance during his ascent, the body of mountaineer al-Absi was successfully retrieved from the heated waters inside the dormant volcano,” stated the Yemeni civil defense agency.
Al-Absi had gained significant fame on social media platforms, primarily due to videos showcasing his daring climbs in perilous mountainous terrains. He was frequently depicted performing these feats without any safety gear, specialized equipment, or even footwear. It was this fearless approach that earned him the affectionate moniker “Spider-Man” among Yemenis.
The unfortunate incident of his fall from the volcanic cliff face into the crater was also captured on video by his admirers who were present during the climb. The search and rescue mission was initiated without delay upon learning of his vanishing during the expedition.
