Over 715,000 residents of China’s Guangdong Province have been evacuated due to Typhoon Pulasan, the first typhoon to hit the region this year. Provincial authorities reported this on July 26, as stated in the Nanfang Daily newspaper.
“As the typhoon approaches, authorities and agencies across various areas of Guangdong have shifted into a heightened state of alert, working together to implement measures to mitigate the impacts of the natural disaster,” the report said.
It was specified that the typhoon made landfall on July 26 at approximately 03:50 local time (23:50 Moscow time on July 25) near Pinghai Town, Huidong County, in the city of Huizhou. At the time of landfall, wind speeds near the center reached 45 meters per second.
On July 14, Reuters reported that authorities in the northeastern Chinese province of Liaoning had evacuated over 260,000 people due to Typhoon Bavi, which struck the country’s mainland. Heavy rains were expected to continue in the region, with extreme downpours anticipated in some areas. The worsening weather conditions were attributed to the large amounts of tropical moisture that the typhoon brought to northern China.
