Researchers from China and the United States have unveiled an innovative unmanned vehicle called QuadBoat, designed to locate and retrieve individuals from water. Unlike existing surface robots that only accompany or detect victims, QuadBoat can operate as a full-fledged rescuer.
The robot features a central body and four “legs” that enable it to maneuver and move across the water. The design was inspired by fishing spiders.
“During pool tests, QuadBoat successfully located, tracked, and retrieved floating objects,” the developers noted.
They also stated that in the future, the robot could assist emergency services during ship accidents and other water incidents. Currently, the device remains in the research phase. Next tests will be conducted in open water conditions with waves, currents, and other natural factors to evaluate its performance in real-world scenarios.
