A passenger train and a freight train collided near Skrinjari, approximately 60 kilometers east of Zagreb, on August 8. The crash occurred at around 10:05 a.m. local time on a section of track between the Sveti Ivan Zabno and Gradec stations. There were 28 people aboard the passenger train, including 26 passengers, a driver, and a conductor. The Croatian Ministry of Health confirmed that a total of 20 people were injured: six sustained severe injuries, and 14 had minor injuries. Victims were transported to hospitals in Bjelovar and Koprivnica, with some later transferred to Zagreb. The railway line was temporarily closed to all traffic while emergency services worked at the scene. An investigation is underway to determine the cause, with preliminary suggestions pointing to a signaling system failure or human error.
