OpenAI has announced that it will gradually discontinue access to its GPT models for the AI coding tool Cursor. The decision follows SpaceXAI’s acquisition of Cursor by Elon Musk. OpenAI cited concerns about contractual obligations and previous instances where businesses associated with Musk had allegedly violated usage terms or utilized AI developments outside agreed-upon frameworks. The company stated that the disconnection will be phased in and completed by November 12, 2026. Cursor’s representatives are reported in talks with OpenAI, seeking a compromise, and have indicated that the tool could continue functioning by integrating with other AI models, such as those from Anthropic.
