Elon Musk offered an ironic take on the results of the U.S. midterm elections, which saw the Democrats gain control of both chambers of Congress. The entrepreneur joked that his supposed space-based lasers, intended to interfere with the voting process, had failed to work. He shared the remark on his social media account, as reported by Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“Looks like my space-based election-interference lasers didn’t work this time,” the businessman wrote. The comment served as an ironic reaction to a political outcome that ran counter to Republican expectations.

Musk’s financial support for the party was substantial. According to The Guardian, by October 29, 2026, the entrepreneur had contributed at least $445.77 million to support Republican political organizations.
However, these financial investments did not help the Republicans retain their majority. The Democrats achieved success even in states traditionally considered strongholds for the Republican Party. Reuters has characterized the election results as a major defeat for supporters of Donald Trump.
The shift of both chambers to Democratic control will alter the balance of power in Washington. The opposition will gain new avenues for conducting parliamentary investigations, exercising oversight over the administration, and blocking the president’s legislative initiatives.
