Elon Musk announced that X (formerly Twitter) will open-source its new recommendation algorithm for both organic posts and advertising within 7 days, and will issue updates every 4 weeks.
“This will recur every 4 weeks with detailed notes for developers to help you grasp what has changed,” he stated.
Last month, the European Union imposed a fine of 120 million euros ($140 million) on X because regulators claimed the company breached its transparency obligations under the bloc’s Digital Services Act.
The penalty is linked to X’s subscription for the “blue checkmark,” a lack of visibility regarding its advertising repository, and the failure to grant researchers access to publicly available platform data.
Musk responded with an expletive under the European Commission’s post about the fine.
