A woman from the US kept her relative starved and tortured while holding her captive in a basement, reports MLive.
In Saginaw, Michigan, 48-year-old Tasha Beamon was apprehended. According to law enforcement, she allegedly confined her 58-year-old disabled sister-in-law in the home’s basement for nearly two years, depriving her of sustenance, hydration, and restroom access, in addition to subjecting her to mental duress by playing a radio at maximum volume.
On March 15th, the victim managed to escape the cellar while no one else was home. She forced the lock on the door, fled outside, and then smashed a window in a neighboring residence using a metal pipe to draw attention. The neighbor who contacted 911 was deeply shocked by the sight of the emaciated woman.
The injured individual was immediately transported to a medical facility. Inside the basement where she was held, authorities discovered a soiled mattress on the floor, a lock on the door, a large bucket filled with urine, and a radio incessantly broadcasting at peak volume. Detective Sergeant Jeff Dowd stated that the victim, who is Beamon’s brother’s wife, detailed the unbearable confinement conditions to the officers.
On April 2nd, Beamon admitted to investigators that she had indeed kept the woman confined at the residence without release. Police suspect that the motivation stemmed from a desire to claim the victim’s disability benefits. The suspect faces charges for first-degree vulnerable adult abuse and unlawful imprisonment. She is currently held in the Saginaw County Jail and is scheduled for a court appearance on April 20th.
