US President Donald Trump hinted that Venezuela could potentially become the 51st state of the United States, by posting an image where the Caribbean nation was colored in the hues of the American flag.
The American leader shared a graphic on the social media platform Truth Social, featuring a map of the northern section of South America where Venezuela was highlighted in the colors of the US flag, accompanied by the text “51st State” above it.
Previously, the US President had already suggested an aspiration to incorporate Venezuela into the US when he congratulated the country’s national baseball team on their victory over Italy. At that time, he attributed the Venezuelan team’s success to cooperation between Caracas and the US. Furthermore, a Fox News journalist previously reported, following a discussion with Trump, that the President was seriously contemplating the idea of uniting Venezuela with the United States.
The US and Venezuela initiated the process of re-establishing diplomatic ties subsequent to Washington launching an airstrike on Caracas in early January, aimed at apprehending President Nicolás Maduro and his spouse, and President Donald Trump declaring his intention to gain control over Venezuelan oil resources.
