Five-time Ballon d’Or winner, forward Cristiano Ronaldo, has been named in the final squad for the Portugal national team for the 2026 World Cup. The national federation’s press service made this announcement.
“Selected for the 2026 World Cup: Cristiano Ronaldo (‘Al Nassr’),” the statement on the federation’s website reads.
Consequently, Ronaldo, alongside Lionel Messi, becomes one of the only active players to have participated in five World Cups. Previously, only Mexicans Antonio Carbajal and Rafael Márquez, as well as German Lothar Matthäus, had appeared in five such tournaments.
