
Gerontologist JoaquĆn Mateu Molla, alongside sexologists Claudia Petri and Camila Gentile, have shed light on the beneficial impact of consistent sexual activity on both mental and physical well-being. The specialists shared these insights in an interview with the publication TN.
The experts explained that during intimacy, the body’s production of endorphins increases. These neurotransmitters are associated with feelings of pleasure and overall emotional contentment. However, the specialists emphasize that sexual activity cannot serve as a complete substitute for psychotherapy or other therapeutic approaches for anxiety and depressive disorders.
Another advantageous outcome is a reduction in cortisol levels, the stress hormone. Sex facilitates a rapid transition within the body from a state of tension to one of relaxation, which positively influences sleep quality and general physical sensations.
The experts also refer to studies indicating that a regular sex life contributes to a more robust immune system. They attribute this effect to both hormonal shifts and a decrease in chronic stress.
An additional positive aspect relates to the cardiovascular system. Medical professionals note that during sexual activity, changes occur in circulation and vascular tone, which can lead to a modest decrease in blood pressure. For some individuals, sex can even reduce pain sensitivity, a phenomenon attributed to the release of endorphins and other neurochemical compounds.
Finally, the experts reiterated that sexual contact fosters stronger emotional bonds and a sense of closeness. This, in turn, enhances relationship stability and promotes psychological comfort.
