Norway’s star striker Erling Haaland has overtaken Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo in the number of goals scored in knockout matches at FIFA World Cups.
On Tuesday, the Norwegians defeated Ivory Coast 2–1 in Dallas in the Round of 32. The 25‑year‑old Haaland found the back of the net, marking his first ever knockout-stage appearance at a World Cup.
The 41‑year‑old Ronaldo has played eight World Cup elimination matches without ever managing to score.
Portugal will face Croatia in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup. The match in Toronto kicks off on July 3 at 2:00 AM Moscow time.
