
The period of cosmic calm for weather-sensitive individuals and communication systems is coming to an end. A prolonged geomagnetic assault is approaching Earth, set to begin as early as this coming weekend.
According to astrophysicists, the destabilization of the magnetic field is caused by the overlapping of two powerful coronal mass ejections from the Sun. As reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory at the Institute of Space Research and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on July 20, the planet will encounter the first local peak in solar wind density—this will serve merely as a prelude to more severe events.
The main impact is anticipated in the afternoon of July 21. At that time, the concentration of solar plasma will reach critical levels, triggering a peak in geomagnetic activity reaching up to 5 points on the disturbance scale. Those sensitive to weather changes may experience headaches, blood pressure fluctuations, and sharp mood swings.
However, the cosmic trials will not end there. Starting July 22, our planet will begin crossing a gigantic high-speed plasma stream (700 km/s) erupting from a vast coronal hole on the Sun. Although Earth will only graze the edge of this ejection, experts predict a series of recurring G1-class magnetic storms that will buffet the magnetosphere at least until July 26. Scientists warn that the impacts could intensify if unpredictable turbulent zones emerge within the stream.
