A trial has begun in Germany for a 39-year-old man accused of repeatedly raping his partner after administering sleeping pills. According to Die Zeit, the first hearing in the case took place on September 10. The defendant has not yet testified; the next hearing is scheduled for September 25.
Investigators allege that the crimes took place over a period of four and a half years. The man reportedly spiked the woman’s drinks with sleeping pills and then sexually assaulted her while she was asleep. Investigators believe there were more than one hundred such incidents during this period.
Furthermore, police allege that the defendant filmed the acts and subsequently posted the recordings online. These details are also part of the case currently being heard by the German court.
The initial hearing concluded without testimony from the 39-year-old defendant. The trial is set to resume on September 25; to date, the defendant has not presented his version of events in court.
