Last night, an explosion occurred at a Jewish school situated in Amsterdam’s Buitenveldert district, as reported by the ANP news agency. The city’s mayor, Femke Halsema, labeled the occurrence as a deliberate act of hostility.
Initial assessments suggest that the material damage sustained by the building was slight. No reports of any injuries have been made public.
According to ANP, surveillance footage exists which captures an individual setting off the explosive device.
The head of Amsterdam emphasized that this incident is being viewed as a premeditated assault targeting the Jewish community. She described the event as a cowardly act of aggression and stressed that an educational institution must maintain a secure environment for children, further asserting that Amsterdam must be a city where Jewish residents can live without fear.
Following recent incidents involving assaults on synagogues in Rotterdam and the Belgian city of Liège, heightened security measures had been implemented around Jewish properties. Halsema stated that this existing surveillance contributed to the swift arrival of law enforcement at the scene in Buitenveldert.
