Over 70 Texas residents have initiated a class-action lawsuit against SpaceX, asserting that the test firings and landings of the Starship rocket have caused harm to their residences and other assets near the Starbase facility in Cameron County. This legal action, as reported by Reuters, was filed in the Brownsville federal court.
According to the filing, throughout 11 test launches conducted between April 2023 and October 2025, SpaceX allegedly subjected the surrounding area to “extremely potent acoustic energy,” encompassing noise, vibrations, and sonic booms. The plaintiffs contend that the company failed to adequately assess the impact of these tests on nearby homes and proceeded with launches regardless of the potential for damage.
SpaceX is developing Starbase in South Texas into a major industrial center intended for mass rocket production. The lawsuit further highlights that Starship produces over 16 million pounds of thrust, nearly double that of NASA’s current Space Launch System rocket. The complainants believe that SpaceX operated with “willful disregard” for the welfare and rights of the nearby population.
SpaceX has yet to issue a statement regarding the lawsuit. Representatives for the plaintiffs have also not responded to inquiries from the press.
